How to measure tread depth of your tyres

The video shown here is for illustration purposes and the cars shown may not be showing the specifications currently available

It is important to measure the tread depth of your tyres regularly so that they are safe to use and road worthy. Tyre pressure is equally important to get right for safety and road handling. The minimum legal tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across 75% of the centre of the trye. Any less than this and the tyre's grip on the road is compromised and so deemed unsafe to drive. A vehicle must meet these requirements to pass its MOT.
