After more than 10 million sales worldwide, one million in Britain alone, and of course the genius behind the now iconic phrases ‘Nicole and Papa’ and ‘Va Va Voom’, the chic supermini is still as popular as ever and to mark the occasion Renault has launched a new special edition – the Clio 20th.

The first Renault Clio was first unveiled in France at the end of 1990 and since then it has continued to set the standards in design before arriving at its current outfit which ranges from the three-door Extreme through to the luxurious five-door versions, Sport Tourer and award-winning Clio Renaultsport 200.

Over the years the small car with the big attitude has continued to lead the way in its segment being the first to introduce remote central locking and innovations such as finger-tip controls – features more commonly associated with larger, more expensive models. In 2000 it was also the first car in its class to secure a maximum four-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, followed in 2005 with sector-leading five-star status – making it one of the safest cars on the road today.
